Mike Smith, the man, the myth, the legend!
Mike first met Flymen founder and CEO Martin Bawden in the early days of Flymen and has been a huge part of Flymen ever since as a fly designer and lead smallmouth guru among his many contributions to the flies and fly tying materials you know and love. His signature flies include the Skull Daddy Crayfish, Foxy Shrimp, Forage Fly (check out the NEW Fly Tying Kit), Saltwater Forage Fly, River Creature, Salt Creature, and Egg Sucking Flash Minnow.
The Forage Fly is now available as a Fly Tying Kit!
Mike is the owner and operator of New River Fly Fishing and in addition to guiding his native Virginia waters, he hosts trips to East End Lodge in The Bahamas.
East End Lodge was completely flattened by Hurricane Dorian. Mike recently returned from a trip to East End Lodge where he saw how the crew rebuilt the lodge from scratch and got back on their feet. If you have been following East End Lodge on Instagram you may have seen the rebuilding process in their stories. Truly inspiring!
While at East End Lodge, Mike reeled in some big bonefish with the new Micro Alphlexo Crab fly pattern, and the East End guides were highly impressed with how the bonefish responded to this new fly pattern. On top of all of this, Mike has written five fly fishing books, known as the Angler’s Guide Series, and he's a college professor!
