Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail Fly Tying Contest.
Click here to vote for your favorite fly and enter for a chance to win a FREE guided fly fishing trip!
The Faux Bucktail Throwdown.
Since launching our new Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail, we've seen more and more photos of amazing flies tied by people like you on social media.
The flies we've seen are just the tip of the iceberg, so we're holding a fly tying contest on Instagram to help you show off your patterns to the world and give you the chance to win grand prizes from Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods, Hareline Dubbin, and Loon Outdoors as well as weekly Flymen prize packs!
It's easy to enter – tie a fly and snap a picture.
- Tie a fly that integrates Fish-Skull Faux Bucktail in some way (Faux Bucktail does not necessarily need to be the primary material) and take a photo of it.
- Post the photo on Instagram, tag @flymenfishingco, @thomasandthomasflyrods, @harelinedubbin, and @loonoutdoors in your post (make sure you're following all of us!), and hashtag #FauxBucktailThrowdown2017.
6 weekly winners.
The Flymen team will vote to choose 1 weekly winner for 6 weeks. Winners will be announced on the Friday of each week.
Each weekly winner will be sent a prize pack with product and swag from all four companies involved ($150+ retail value!).
The criteria for winning can be anything from realism to creativity, so go crazy with your design. We love seeing innovative ideas. So far we've seen everything from nymphs to Clouser Minnows to giant musky streamers tied with Faux Bucktail.
I posted some fly photos before the contest started... Can I enter them in the contest?
Photos from the past can be entered in the contest, so if you've already posted some awesome Faux Bucktail flies, go back and re-post the photos, tag our companies in them, and add the contest hashtag (#FauxBucktailThrowdown2017). One may be a winner! This also means a photo you post on the first week could be a winner on the last week.
The final round.
At the end of the 6 weeks, we will re-post the 6 winning flies on a webpage for a voting period.
After the voting period, the grand prizes will be given to the fly tyers who tied the flies with the most votes.
The grand prizes.
1st place – Thomas & Thomas Avantt fly rod ($825 value – model of the winner's choice).
With ultra-low swing weight and lightning-fast recovery, these hand-made rods come alive in the hand. At close range, the Avantt rods provide precise command of the fly with a delicate touch. Longer casts reveal surprising power and line speed with tight loops and excellent line control.
The Avantt series is comprised of seven models: 8’ 6” rods in line weights 3 and 4; 9 foot rods in weights 5 through 7; and 10 foot rods in weights 4 and 5.
Born in 1969 of an obsession to create the world’s finest fly rods, Thomas & Thomas sets the standard for craftsmanship, performance and aesthetics in rodmaking. From a small shop in rural New England, Thomas & Thomas builds timeless classics from bamboo and fiberglass and modern masterpieces incorporating the latest graphite and resin technologies.
2nd place – Hareline Dubbin fly tying dream kit ($500 value – winner's choice of materials).
Hareline Dubbin manufactures and distributes some of the world's finest fly tying materials available in today's market. Hareline Dubbin was founded in 1981 and has grown from a kitchen stove top with 12 colors of Hareline Dubbin to a 18,000 square foot facility with thousands of fly tying products ready to deliver to fly shops worldwide.
3rd place – Loon Outdoors Fishing With A Conscience goodie box ($300 value – winner's choice of product).
Loon Outdoors is the leader in innovative and environmentally friendly fly-fishing and fly-tying accessories.
