Destination Articulation Fly Tying Contest

Click here to vote for your favorite fly and enter for a chance to win a FREE Orvis Helios 3 fly rod!

Thread your bobbins.

We love tying articulated flies and if you ask us, winter is one of the best times of year to whip them up at the vise. We've seen more and more photos on social media of amazing articulated flies tied by tyers like you with shanks from the Flymen Articulated Shank family.

The flies we've seen are just the tip of the iceberg, so we're holding a fly tying contest on Instagram to help you show off your patterns to the world and give you the chance to win grand prizes from Renzetti, Taylor Fly Fishing, and Ahrex Hooks as well as weekly Flymen prize packs!

Orvis had to get in on the fun as well. If you take part in voting in the final round to decide the winner you'll have the chance to win a Helios3 Fly Rod!

It's easy to enter – tie a fly and snap a picture.

  1. Tie a fly that integrates a shank from the Flymen Articulated Shank family (it can be any of the 6 different types of shanks) and take a photo of it.
  2. Post the photo on Instagram, tag @flymenfishingco, @orvisflyfishing, @renzettiinc, @taylorflyfishing, and @ahrexhooks in your post (make sure you're following all of us!), and hashtag #DestinationArticulationFlyTyingContest.

6 weekly winners.

The Flymen team will vote to choose 1 weekly winner for 6 weeks. Winners will be announced on the Friday of each week.

Each weekly winner will be sent a prize pack with Flymen product and swag from all four companies involved.

The criteria for winning can be anything from realism to creativity, so go crazy with your design. Streamers, nymphs, and foam flies are all welcome. We love seeing innovative ideas.

Entries are eligible to win through the duration of the contest, meaning a photo you post on the first week could be a winner on the last week.

I posted some fly photos before the contest started... Can I enter them in the contest?

Photos from the past can be entered in the contest, BUT they must be re-posted (simply adding the hashtag on a photo from 3 months ago doesn't count).

The final round.

At the end of the 6 weeks, we will re-post the 6 winning flies on a webpage for a voting period.

After the voting period, the grand prizes will be given to the fly tyers who tied the flies with the most votes.

Everyone who votes in the final round will be entered into a sweepstakes to have the chance to win a Helios3 Fly Rod, so even if you don't win a prize in the contest you may walk away with one of the coolest fly rods out there!

The grand prizes.

1st Place – Taylor Fly Fishing Revolution Fly Reel ($359 Retail Value — Size of Winner's Choice).

2nd Place – Ahrex Hooks Super Pack ($300 Retail Value — Winner's Choice of Ahrex Products).

3rd Place – Renzetti Traveler 2000 Vise + $100 Worth of Renzetti Fly Tying Materials ($270 total retail value).

Voting Sweepstakes Prize — Orvis Helios3 9-foot 5-weight Fly Rod ($849 Retail Value).

That's right, all you have to do is vote for your favorite fly in the finals and you'll be entered for a chance to win a Helios3.

Articulated flies appeal to the lateral line of a fish. The sensory perception of a predatory fish will locate the weak and injured fly in a diversity of environmental conditions.. Truly a game changer…fish on!
